Goldie Recruits Break for a Heavier “Jungle Daze” Remix, With a Royal Festival Hall Show on the Way
Goldie put out a new remix of “Jungle Daze” on September 4, reworked by fellow drum and bass veteran Break. The remix keeps Natalie Williams’ vocal but pushes the track into darker, bass-heavy territory. It’s out now on London Records, and it lands a few months before Goldie takes the song somewhere very different: a one-off orchestral show at London’s Royal Festival Hall on November 14.
Jungle came out of London’s reggae soundsystem culture, sped up and roughened into its own genre. Drum and bass grew straight out of that. Goldie helped build both. Putting out a new single, getting it remixed by another D&B veteran, and restaging it with a full orchestra and choir, all within the same few months, is that lineage still doing real work three decades on.
“Jungle Daze,” featuring vocalist Natalie Williams, came out July 22 on London Records. It’s their first pairing since “I Adore You,” off Goldie’s 2017 album The Journey Man. The video, directed by Katia Schutz, mixes archival jungle and D&B footage with photos and flyers fans submitted themselves. Break’s September 4 remix keeps Williams’ vocal up front and roughens the bassline and drums underneath it. Goldie said the song was for “all these young ones getting into the original vibe we made so long ago,” adding, “we lived it, and they breathe it.”
On November 14, Goldie performs “Dare To Dream” at the Royal Festival Hall in London, part of the EFG London Jazz Festival, which runs November 13 through 22 across London venues. His shows open the festival’s main weekend. He’ll play twice that day, at 5pm and 8:30pm, joined by the Elysian Collective, a choir, his live band, and guests still to be announced. The festival says he’ll debut unreleased material from a new, unannounced project.
